Build-Your-Own Wooden Laptop
Project Description:
In this innovative project, students step into the role of engineers and makers as they assemble their very own wooden laptop from a hands-on kit. Using laser-cut wooden pieces, hardware components, and detailed blueprints, students construct the body of the laptop and integrate electronic parts such as a Raspberry Pi computer, screen, and wiring.
This project blends creativity with technology: while the wooden frame gives students a chance to practice spatial reasoning and assembly skills, the electronic components introduce them to coding, circuitry, and computer engineering. By the end of the project, each student has a fully functioning laptop housed in a unique wooden case—a tangible example of how design, engineering, and technology work together.
Learning Outcomes:
Gain experience in following blueprints and step-by-step engineering instructions.
Learn how physical assembly and digital components combine in real-world technology.
Build teamwork, problem-solving, and persistence skills during construction.
Explore the basics of computing using a Raspberry Pi-powered laptop they helped create.
